Experiencing the Face of God in Atlanta

"On Tuesday this week our group of 5 worked at Café 458. I was waitressing 2 of the tables, and kind of nervous that I would mess everything up since it was my first time. I am not really an outgoing person, so I basically just talked when I had to, getting orders and serving, and I didn’t really expect that anyone would want me to talk to them. After his meal, one of the men at my tables came up and talked to me, to tell me that it really was OK for me to open up, and I was doing a great job waitressing so I didn’t need to be so worried about that. The fact that he went so out of his way to make me more comfortable was really striking – because I had come to Atlanta to serve people, but right then it felt more like they were the ones helping me." "We brought a group who did not know each other very well. The service projects and the reflection allowed this group to challenge themselves, their stereotypes. It also allowed them to think "outside of the box" and get out of their comfort zone. The trip EMPOWERED all of them to continue to do service because of what they learned and experienced. This trip was a trip that our young people will remember for the rest of their lives. Thanks for everything! DOOR Atlanta was AWESOME!" Tennessee |
"I was amazed as I learned about the history behind each organization and then met the faces that keep these places up and going. Mostly it was a reality check for me because before working with DOOR I had no clue that some of these agencies even existed. This summer turned out to be not only a learning experience for the groups that came, but me as well. The presence of God is definitely in my city." Kacey Harbison |
